What is a CLYG? CLYG stands for Canadian Lutheran Youth Gathering. The Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada (ELCIC) holds a gathering just for youth every two years in various locations across Canada. The gathering's purpose is: -to proclaim the grace and faithfulness of God revealed to us in Jesus Christ. -to respond to God's grace and faithfulness in ways that are intentional, practical and meaningful. -to celebrate that, by the grace of God, we are now children of God. This is to be accomplished: -by providing a "youth centred" program that will empower youth and develop leadership, -through varied worship experiences that help youth connect word and sacrament in their daily Christian life, and -through the sharing of what has been learned and experienced with others. Who can come to a CLYG? The gathering is designed for youth ages 14 - 19. To come to the Gathering, you must be part of a registered Home Team, pay the registration fee, and meet the age criteria. Home Team Leaders (HTL) must be a minimum of 21 (preferably 25) years of age or older by Dec. 31, 2008. Youth participants must be 14 years of age or older by December 31, 2008 or have completed Grade 8 by the time of the Gathering and no older than 19 years of age by December 31, 2008. What is a Home Team? The basic unit within the Gathering is the Home Team, and every participant is part of one of these. Each Home Team has a minimum of three people and a maximum of eleven (two adult Home Team Leaders of opposite gender and two to nine youth). Read more about Home Team Leader requirements here.
