Church and Society Committee announcement

November is one of Project Peacemakers’ busiest months, as it contains two of our more well-known events. We hope that you will consider passing on the following announcements to your congregations, for when people of faith work together, amazing things will happen!

Peaceful Play for our Children Are you concerned with the level of violence in children’s toys? Do you believe it is important to work towards a more peaceful world in a practical hands-on way? Can you donate one Saturday of your time? On November 17th we need volunteers (working in teams) to visit designated toy stores and rate them based on criteria that will be provided to you. There are no age restrictions – invite you grandson / grandmother along. If you are interested in more information, please contact Project Peacemakers (775.8178 or info@projectpeacemakers.org).

Good Music for a Good Cause! Sunday November 11 at 2:00 pm
Please join Project Peacemakers at our Annual Sing for Peace Benefit Concert at Crescent Fort Rouge United Church (on the corner of Wardlaw Ave. and Nassau St. in Osborn Village). Tickets are $10 (children 12 and under free) and can be purchased at the door, or by contacting Project Peacemakers (775.8178 or info@projectpeacemakers.org).

In the Brokenhead Conference
The Brokenhead Conference Lutherans came together at the Pinawa Community Centre on Sunday morning, October 28, and were joined by their Anglican brothers and sisters on the territory, for a joint Reformation Sunday Service. The junior handbell choir from the rural Beausejour parish, the men's choir from Zion, Beausejour, and a massed choir from all the parishes provided music leadership. Service leadership was shared by the pastors in the conference, and Rev. Larry Ulrich, Assistant to the Bishop was the guest preacher. Lunch followed. The Brokenhead Conference has been talking about partnership in ministry as part of their area strategy, doing some youth and confirmation ministry together, as well as possibly funding an internship that would be rural and a joint Lutheran/Anglican experience. The joint service was planned as another way to live out this partnership in the Brokenhead Conference.

Worship: History and Structure

Are you interested in learning more about how our Lutheran Worship was developed and how it reflects our biblical teachings? A course entitled

Worship: History and Structure will be offered at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Steinbach on the weekend of November 23-24, 2007. This is a credit course if you are registered in the Certificate in Lay Ministry program, but the course is open to anyone interested in digging deeper into the study of worship.

Co-facilitators for this event are Rev. Don Engel and Ms Donna Engel. This spousal team has been working together in many congregational settings through decades of service to the church. Pastor Don currently serves as chair of the ELCIC Program Committee for Worship. Donna is an accomplished musician who has been sharing her musical gifts in a variety of roles over the years.

Bring your personal Evangelical Lutheran Worship hymnal with you or one will be provided at the event. Come and learn together.

Canada Lutheran has a new editor

Canada Lutheran has hired a new Editor.

Lucia Carruthers, who most recently was the editor of Winnipeg Women, will be sharing with us her vast experience and knowledge in the area of publications; she has a bachelor's degree in mass communication and a masters degree in magazine journalism, has edited award-winning trade publications, consumer publications and books, and has written countless magazine articles. We look forward to her enthusiasm, Christian faith and experience pushing our publication to reach new heights.

For the next issue, she will work collaboratively with Trina Gallop as she begins to gain insight into our unique publication and after that Trina will return to her role of overseeing the publication from a strategic point of view and the connection to her work as the manager of communications.

Water, water, everywhere . . .
. . . but if it's from the tap, you probably wouldn't want to drink a drop of it, anyway . . .
