Faith’s Advisory Council’s Response to the Manitoba Government’s News Release
re: the official opening of River Park Gardens
On October the 25th the Manitoba Government issued a news release to announce the official opening of River Park Gardens. This news release meets the government’s purposes but does not tell the whole story.
Theresa Oswald, the Minister of Health, did say that River Park Gardens started as a vision for Faith Lutheran Church. She also said that that many, from the church, were involved in making this vision a reality. She specifically noted the efforts of Alf Horn and the late George Smith. She said that without their exceptional talent and effort she’s sure that this beautiful facility would never have been built. She stated that River Park Gardens is the nicest Personal Care Home in the Province of Manitoba.
Members of Faith Lutheran played significant roles at the official opening. Marilyn Szajcz played organ music prior to the program starting. Pastor Larry Ulrich offered a prayer of blessing for River Park Gardens, its staff & residents and Alf Horn was involved in the official ribbon cutting ceremony.
As noted by Real Cloutier, 2nd Vice President of WRHA, Alf Horn, Dan Rupell & Jim Thomas represent Faith Lutheran at the River Park Gardens Advisory Council meetings. The next meeting will be in early November. At that time, a wish list, of items which were not included in the building or operating budgets but would enhance the quality of life for the residents, will be developed. Faith Lutheran continues to work on both a plan for voluntary ministry and the supply of a Spiritual Advisor (Chaplain) to River Park Gardens.
