From the Lakeside
As our season out at camp has officially ended and Luther Village has been shut down and tucked in for the winter, I want to say thank you to all our guests who stayed/visited us at camp this past season. My hope is that you were able to witness God’s love and Christian hospitality through our staff and programs while out at LV. It can happen in so many different ways and I do hope you feel you were ministered to. Those who were unable to make it out this year, please do visit us another time! Thanks for the prayers to have another successful and safe season of ministry in the great outdoors. Numbers were low in some areas, which made it difficult for us to meet our budget (we didn’t) but spirits were high.

If you would like to still contribute to our annual Phoneathon fundraiser, you can do so by using the donate button below, or on our website. Deadline is December 31, 2011.

Also please think about joining us for our annual gourmet Dinner & Dance, Friday November 25, 2011. Legacy is providing the music, Chef Raymond is providing the meal, wine & beer will be available for purchase, there will be an auction and fabulous opportunities for fellowship there. See below for details and to order your tickets now so as to not be disappointed.

Watch for our winter newsletter online in December and our annual brochure mailed out mid-December.

If you need to connect with us, we have settled back in our winter offices in Lutheran Church of the Cross on Arlington in Winnipeg. Call at 204.783.3337 or email kim@luthervillage.ca or megan@luthervillage.ca.

Blessings of happiness to all!
Kim Scherger, Executive Director

luther village
New & exciting for Luther Village! As many of you know, we are in the midst of our largest fundraiser of the year: our Phoneathon/email-athon. We have set up and added on-line donating through PayPal. Now it is very easy and fast to donate to LV.

It takes just a few clicks and your donation has been sent to us. And you don’t have to have your own account with PayPal. You can donate now to the Phoneathon (Luther Village) or at any time of the year. The button is on our homepage and our Donate/Support page.

Saturday Night is Alright!!!
Please join us at Faith Lutheran (1311 Dakota St.) on Saturdays at 5:30 p.m.
  • Saturday November 12, Communion
  • Saturday November 19, Emergent
  • Saturday November 26, Worship

Saturday worship developed from a vision to provide an alternate time for those with Sunday morning commitments, and an alternate worship style for those drawn to a less structured service.

It is a relaxed, informal worship led by guitar or piano, offered as a break in your busy weekend with plenty of time to go for dinner afterwards and enjoy the rest of your evening!

Once a month we offer communion; once a month there is the opportunity to be anointed as a part of a healing service.

Several Taize worship services are also held throughout the year. Taize is quiet, meditative worship based on scriptures and chanting.

In the Emergent-style worship services, the life of Jesus is seen and celebrated as a model for hope, for social justice, for loving all humanity, and for the hope of taking part in bringing in God's Kingdom in the here and now. These worship services do not use the traditional liturgies or creeds but rather words that apply to us today, teaching us that being a Christian requires practice, learning the compassion of charity, and promoting active participation in God's work in the world, reclaiming the message of Jesus.

Cambrian Agassiz KAIROS invites you to attend an evening with Dianne Baker on November 29, 2011. Dianne will speak on her experiences over three months with The Ecumenical Accompaniment Programme in Palestine and Israel. We will meet at Kildonan United Church which is located at 187 Kilbride (east of Main St.), between 7:30 and 9:30pm.

Dianne is a dynamic speaker and this will be a wonderful opportunity to learn more about the current situation in Palestine/Israel, and about the EAPPI program.

More about Dianne: Dianne Baker served with EAPPI (Ecumenical Accompaniment Program in Palestine and Israel) for three months from June to September 2011. She is the mother of three daughters and partner of Jim Hatherly. She and Jim have shared a long commitment to issues of justice and cross-cultural work. They lived in Trinidad working with The Methodist Church on behalf of the United Church of Canada from 1992 to 1995.
