Curiosity Turned to Joy

At first it sparked curiosity. A large envelope, addressed to the ELCIC's Global Hunger and Development Appeal (GHDA) coming from Bawlf Junior High in Alberta. Then, when we opened the envelope, our curiosity turned to joy. Inside, we found a large stack of registration and pledge forms for the Hunger (inter)Mission. Bawlf Junior High had taken it upon themselves to participate in the Hunger (inter)Mission program and in the process they had raised over $2400 to address hunger in the world.

Hunger(inter)Mission is a program developed by Canadian Lutheran World Relief (CLWR) to raise awareness among youth about hunger in the world and to raise funds to address hunger throughout the world. The program involves a 24 hour event during which youth go with out snacks and food (though they can have a small meal and drink juice) and learn about hunger in the world. Participants also raise money which is given to GHDA to address hunger and its causes (you can find out more information about Hunger(inter)Mission at www.clwr.org).

Our thanks goes out to the Bawlf School and its teachers for taking on this project, and to all the other youth groups who have also taken this one. Your support for those who go hungry and your willingness to learn about hunger is an inspiration to all of us.
