| Lutherans prayerfully prepare for eleventh biennial national convention |
Almost 400 delegates from across Canada will gather in Winnipeg this week to participate in the Eleventh Biennial National Convention of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Canada (ELCIC). During the two and a half days of convention business meetings, delegates will elect a new National Bishop, celebrate the Evangelical Declaration – one of the theological foundations of the ELCIC, discuss a motion on synodical oversight regarding the blessing of same-sex relationships, and embark on a Stewardship of Creation Initiative - an environmental action plan for the ELCIC. The National Convention takes place every two years and includes clergy, lay, staff members, international partners and guests. In addition to delegates and special guests, over one hundred visitors are registered to attend and over two hundred volunteers will assist with convention logistics. |

Cost for the program will come in the registration materials. Other courses will be available Oct. 19-20 and Nov. 23-24 as facilitators and sites are confirmed. Information will be posted to our website in late July as well. |
| Lease is up |
The current MNO synod office lease will expire at the end of 2007. We are currently searching for a space with better access and visibility. If anyone knows of a suitable office or home available for rent in the preferred area, please call the office at 204.889.3760. |

| MNO office says thanks |
| The Synod Office wants to send a special thanks to Helga Zinko who spent many hours doing data entry for us. Her work produced a marvelous database of motions from synod conventions, council meetings and executive meetings that will enable synod staff to easily find any motion that has ever come to the business meetings of the synod since its inception in 1986. We enjoyed having her in the office over the weeks she worked on the database as well. Thanks Helga, for assisting in the work of the synod office. |

| Stewardship Thots: Doritos and Ruffles |
| The church is not immune from the battle between the opposing world views of scarcity and abundance. Scarcity insists we lack the resources for doing what God calls us to do. The contrary view expresses confidence in God's abundance. Eric Williams, rector of St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Jamestown, New York, uses two snack food ad campaigns to illustrate this tension. Click here to see if you have a Ruffles or a Doritos way of life. |

| Public Consultation to be held | |
This week the ELCIC will be meeting in convention at the University of Manitoba, June 24-27. One of the motions coming to the floor is in regards to Same Gender Blessings becoming the responsibility of the Synods, under the emphasis of "In Mission for Others". Members of MNO have concerns about the outcome of this vote and have asked for direction from the synod office. In consultation with Synod Council Executive, it was suggested we hold a public consultation in the synod to address the concerns or issues in regards to this vote. While details aren’t available about the meeting date, I want to assure members of MNO that we will indeed hold a meeting to address this issue as it relates to our synod. Date and time, and parameters for such a consultation are in the early planning stages. We will inform congregations and pastors as this information becomes available. Thank you for your concerns and comments shared with me as your bishop, |

| Luther Village | |
1st Annual Bus trip a success! Wow! What a great event! This past Saturday, over 30 people ventured out by a motor coach across the Manitoba/Ontario border to the spectacular "hiding place" of Luther Village! The weather was amazing for these people who chose to take us up on our first promo trip to spend the day at camp. While there, young and old alike took part in the camp tour, pontoon boat rides, bog walk hike, crafts, archery, swimming, some time for visiting and checking out the snacks in the canteen, a campfire and two delicious meals! One lady commented as she was getting on the bus to leave that evening, "I wondered what we'd do all day, but you kept us busy and entertained and taught us so much about the camp...thank you!". Another first-timer said mid-way through the day, "you (staff) are all so friendly and a joy to be around...thanks for this amazing day!" The ministry that takes place at Luther Village was evident from the smiles, the words of thanks, the comments of "we're coming back" and Small Fry Camp - June 22-24...those who are completing grades 2 & 3 are invited to sample all that camp has to offer in one great weekend! Swimming, games, hiking, campfire and singing together with your counsellors and friends! See link to poster for more details! Register NOW! It's almost time for camp! |
