NINE GREAT CANADIAN NEIGHBOURS IN WINNIPEG RECEIVE SURPRISE GIFTS

They are ordinary people living extraordinary lives and their next door neighbours wanted to thank them!
On Saturday, June 9, CJOB GodTalk co-hosts David Balzer and Melissa McEachern, along with photographer Grant Hoeppner, spent 5 hours criss-crossing the city of Winnipeg in a 15-passenger van delivering deluxe leather chairs, Eco Green lawn treatment packages and a gardening gift certificate to nine unsuspecting great Canadian neighbours.  The Great Canadian Neighbour Contest ran on cjob.com, GodTalk.com and the GodTalk radio show from May 1 – June 5, 2007 inviting people to enter their neighbours by simply “telling us what’s so great about your Winnipeg neighbour!”
A random draw from all Contest entries identified nine neighbours who would receive a surprise prize pack.

LUM welcomes new Ministry Leader
The Board of the Lutheran Urban Ministry is pleased to announce that Denise Warren has accepted the position of Ministry Leader and Manager and will begin her work among us on June 25th. She brings a wealth of experience to this position. Her start-up plans include the following:
first meeting with the community participants, then with the volunteers whose assistance is essential to our ongoing ministry, and then with congregations and individuals who have a desire to be involved in this outreach ministry of our church. We give thanks to God for the grace that we experience daily and the opportunity we have to share this with others.

Rally for the Raza family

Friends

Here is some information that was forwarded to me. Our convention and joint day are unable with this short notice to act on this matter. The Raza family of in sanctuary at Crescent Fort Rouge United Church. A personal friend of mine, Jim, is on the committee that is giving the family sanctuary. The following letter gives some indication of how we might get involved.

Don Engel
Dean

June 20th is World Refugee Day and a rally is being planned at the church (Crescent Fort Rouge) that evening (7:30) to show support for the Raza family and their case, and to demonstrate to the Government of Canada that there is wide awareness of and support for their claim.

Here are some possibilities to consider:
Send a message to the Minister of Citizenship & Immigration, Diane Finley asking her to grant them the ability to stay in Canada
Make postcards to Diane Finely available to your delegates (we can provide the postcards)
Have someone come to the rally on behalf of your meeting – or send a message to be read at the rally
If there is free time that evening suggest that numbers of people come to the rally.

Cameroon Companion Synod Program

The MNO synod is about to launch an exciting new program to educate Lutherans about the opportunties to partner with the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Cameroon, our companion Synod in western Africa.

Epiphany Lutheran was the site of a special dinner last Wednesday to hilight the possibilities, raise awareness and build excitement for the program. The dinner was attended by rostered ministers of the synod and representatives of several congregations. During the event, organizer Mark Kinzel unveiled the program's new website.

Cameroon Companions is looking to raise $150,000 to fund various projects.

The synod is asking for your prayers, financial support and commitment that will allow us to complete our targeted projects and to send a message of hope and partnership to our companions in Cameroon.
