| Study Conference information | |
MNO Synod Rostered Ministers and Attached is the Study Conference registration package that was sent to all rostered ministers and congregations earlier this month. The conference is the only time each year (other than at synod conventions in alternate years) that ALL leaders gather together for study, renewal and relationship building with each other. We encourage congregations who have lay persons on staff to also send their leadership to this event. This year we are delighted to have Rev. Kelly Fryer as our guest presenter. Register by August 15th to qualify for the early bird registration fee! All registrations must be in by September 6th. |

Dear friends and supporters: The phenomenon is not unique to El Salvador. It is a growing tsunami set off in Washington, D.C., post- (perhaps pre-?) 9/11. From there it has spread around the world . . . from the Philippines to Paraguay to . . . . It's labelled "anti-terrorism". While those who steal the nation's water from the nation's children may spend part of a 15-year sentence in jail (on the rare occasion when they are actually caught and convicted, as with Carlos Perla, former president of the national water company, sentenced in El Salvador this past week), those who cry out for water for the nation's children are labelled "terrorists", and sentenced to up to 60 years in prison. |

| On Donations and Dumping | |
Lutheran Urban Ministry would like to acknowledge and thank all who have made financial contributions during the past 10 months that we have been transitioning to a corporate entity. You have allowed us the latitude to continue operating while at the same time giving us the required time to get organized. We are going to need the continued financial support of each congregation of the MNO Synod as we go forward in this combined ministry. We would also like to express our gratitude for the generous ongoing donation of food for the after worship meal from both contributing congregations and Finales Coffee House. Finales donates muffins and other baked goods and desserts each week to Lutheran Urban Ministry. We’d like to encourage you to support their business at 1-3 St. Mary’s Ave.(corner of Marion and St. Mary’s) when your next sweet craving hits. We also get other donations of clothing and other goods, some of which are useful and some of which add to the workload of the staff in disposing of stuff that is no longer useful. Almost daily there is a pile of stuff left in front of 441 Sherbrook that needs to be sorted, cleaned or carried to the dumpster. We are trying to keep the front of the building tidy and will appreciate everyone’s help. Please make an appointment (774.3143) to make a drop off. |
