Introduction to Multiplying Ministries
Multiplying ministries
The early church was a vibrant group of people who had very little sub- committees or designations in the community. There were people set apart for specialized roles in the faith community- apostles, deacons, catechists, etc. but for the most part, all participated in the life and faith of their communities. All the people were priests and ministers in the faith community. All were called to serve.

The church, in its long history lost some of the emphasis of the people, through their baptism, being called to be the body of Christ in the world. In recent years there has been a growing interest in lay ministry. People of God are called to discover the gifts they have received in baptism and to use them for the building up of the church and the world. Many are passionate about how God might use their gifts and are looking for guidance in developing and using their gifts for ministry.

Introducing Cathy Morris

The MNO Synod has hired Cathy Morris as the Strengthening Ministry Coordinator/Conflict Management Consultant.

In her duties,
1. She will perform assessments in situations where individuals and/or congregational groups have issues between them and determine whether a facilitated process would be beneficial in trying to resolve these issues and/or come to a better understanding of the other parties' perspective. If such a process is recommended, then she would facilitate the process. The most common processes that are typically used in these types of situations are mediation and community conferencing.

2. Multiplying Ministries /Lay Ministries certificate - she will develop and facilitate a course on conflict management in the spring of 2008

3. Congregational Peacebuilding Partners - she is the representative for the MNO Synod on this committee. CPP is an ecumenical group in Manitoba that seeks to build capacity among churches and leadership for dealing with conflict.

Gathering has Concern for Rural Communities

A deep awareness of world community quickly formed as 81 people visiting from 12 nations gathered for the International Rural Church Association's (IRCA) fourth quadrennial conference. Members of the Canadian Rural Church Network hosted these visitors at Brandon University (July 3-9, 2007).

Participants, from South Korea, New Zealand, Australia, Switzerland / Romania, Germany, England, Tonga, Indonesia, India, Czech Republic, Iceland and USA, were rural people (clergy and lay) and church leaders who shared concerns effecting rural communities, and sought to develop a deeper understanding about how churches might respond to these "Cries From and Heart" (which was the theme of the Conference).

DAN BJORNSON MEMORIAL YOUTH GAMES/MULTI-PURPOSE ROOM
The next exciting project for Luther Village is the Youth Games/Multipurpose room being built in memory of Dan Bjornson, a long time camper who passed away suddenly in 2004. A committee was struck to organize this project and to do separate fundraising for this. The target amount has been raised to begin construction of the building which will start in the Fall of this year! The building will be located where the existing chalet lounge is currently located.

If anyone would like to assist with this building project, which will be built by volunteers, the weekends of Sept. 7-9 and 14 - 16 have been set for this project. The week between this, Sept 10-14, is open to volunteers out to build as well. We will provide lodging and meals in exchange for the work you provide! A dedication service is planned for Sun. Sept. 16, in the afternoon. If anyone would like to donate to this fund, you are welcome to do so. Call Luther Village for more information at 807.543.4052. Thank you for walking together with us into the future at Luther Village!
