The Worship & Arts Committee wishes to announce the upcoming Multiplying Ministries course for lay preachers.

The course will be presented at St. Mark's Lutheran on Friday Feb.22 from 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm starting with supper, and Saturday Feb. 23 from 9:30 am - 4:00 pm including lunch and coffee.

The presenter will be Rev. Lee Luetkehoelter.

The registration fee is $95, to be included with registration form (includes meals and coffee breaks)

Please send the registration form to the Synod Office by January 18.

The text for the course will be The Four Pages of the Sermon by Paul Scott Wilson. **The reading of the text is required before attending the course.

Please contact Duane at Hull’s Books immediately to order the text. It takes approximately two weeks for delivery of the book order. Cost is $25.99 plus tax. Some have pre-ordered the book and may pick it up at Hull’s when contacted by the store.

Annual Meeting Time

As congregational councils and congregations approach Annual Meeting time, a significant portion of time is taken up reviewing where things “ended up” financially for 2007, and working on the proposed budget for 2008. What do those budgets say about priorities for your congregational mission and ministry?  Perhaps some findings from an ELCA study on the “Best Practices for Congregational Stewardship” might be helpful for your council to consider.

Jack and Val Frederick are planning another trip to Cameroon. Before they go, they will travel to Minneapolis on January 31. They hope to fill their Honda CRV to the hilt with supplies that will be shipped to N'gaoundéré, Cameroon.

Global Health Ministries http://www.ghm.org/  sends large containers of supplies to hospitals throughout the world.

The container(s) will be loaded on February 2 in Minneapolis and then ship on February 4 for arrival by the latest mid April.

When Jack and Val arrive in Cameroon, they will distribute the items.

Last year, Val and Jack took 100 school kits and 100 children’s kits from CLWR for distribution in Cameroon.

Faith Lutheran Church’s River Park Gardens Advisory Council
is receiving applications for the following position:

Spiritual Advisor (Chaplain)
River Park Gardens Personal Care Home
735 St. Annes Road
(20 hrs/week Contract Position)

Areas of Responsibilities:
Under the general direction of the Senior Pastor, Faith Lutheran Church, and with the cooperation of the Director of Care, River Park Gardens, the Spiritual Advisor shall:

• Oversee the spiritual care of residents and staff at River Park Gardens;
• Assists in the training of volunteers doing resident spiritual care visits;
• Participate as a member of the resident care team;
• Oversee the provision of regular worship & special services, in partnership with local faith communities;
• Provide regular visitation for residents and support for their families;
• Assist with transitions in admission and palliative care;
• Coordinate with area faith communities the provision of ministry for special needs and traditions;
• Assist in the development of greater awareness and education in matters of faith, aging and wellness for residents, staff and families.

Qualifications     (Education, Knowledge, Abilities & Skills)

• Completion of at least two quarters of Supervised Pastoral Education through the Canadian Association for Pastoral Practice Education (CAPPE), with Advanced standing
• At least two years theological education, consistent with Lutheran/Anglican theology, at an accredited seminary or school of theology
• Strong interpersonal, communication & empathetic listening skills.  
• Education and/or work experience in gerontology including dementias is an asset
• Ability to exercise good judgment, use discretion and be self-motivated
• Ability to work effectively as a member of the resident care team
