LUM Donations

We want to acknowledge and thank everyone who has been supporting LUM financially during this transition period. Continue to submit your donations through your regular offerings, specifying LUM. Our Charitable Registration procedure is getting closer to completion and hopefully by year's end we will have a simpler process in place.

We also want to thank Finales Coffee House on Marion at St. Mary's Rd for their ongoing generosity in donating muffins, scones and desserts for the lunch at LUM on a weekly basis.

We are in dire need of canned goods for emergency distribution at the 441 Sherbrook. At last look, there was one lonely can of peas. Some good items would be canned fish, peanut butter, canned pasta, canned vegetables, beans of any kind, soups, stews etc. (We cannot store anything that would be available to rodents at our site, due to a City of Winnipeg health directive.)

One last note, if you have clothing to donate to the clothing bank,
please call Denise at 774.3143 to arrange a receiving time. We need to discontinue the trend towards leaving items on the front lawn of 441 Sherbrook. This just encourages more dumping, littering etc. These items then need to be cleaned, dried (if its raining), sorted and/or disposed of. Your consideration will help us perform this part of our ministry more efficiently.

Changing the Conversation: Nurturing a Third Way for Congregations...

by Anthony B. Robinson For congregations--particularly congregations of the mainline Protestant tradition--the way forward has everything to do with changing the conversation. Is a third way possible--a way beyond the polarized alternatives of either liberal or conservative, left or right, red or blue, traditional or contemporary, praise or classical? If it is possible, is a third way merely a compromise between extremes, a muddle in the middle, or is it a vital center and a new framing of the conversation?

For congregations that seek such a third way, there are perhaps ten important conversations that need to be deepened and sustained in their ongoing life. These conversations are all contributions to and different takes on the overall effort to change the conversation in ways that nurture an emerging third way that moves beyond the current and tired polarization.

DAN BJORNSON MEMORIAL YOUTH GAMES/MULTI-PURPOSE ROOM
The next exciting project for Luther Village is the Youth Games/Multipurpose room being built in memory of Dan Bjornson, a long time camper who passed away suddenly in 2004. A committee was struck to organize this project and to do separate fundraising for this. The target amount has been raised to begin construction of the building which will start in the Fall of this year! The building will be located where the existing chalet lounge is currently located.

If anyone would like to assist with this building project, which will be built by volunteers, the weekends of Sept. 7-9 and 14 - 16 have been set for this project. The week between this, Sept 10-14, is open to volunteers out to build as well. We will provide lodging and meals in exchange for the work you provide! A dedication service is planned for Sun. Sept. 16, in the afternoon. If anyone would like to donate to this fund, you are welcome to do so. Call Luther Village for more information at 807.543.4052. Thank you for walking together with us into the future at Luther Village!
