Many Voices Telling the Story: Hope Considering Our Racism

Workshop 1:
May 8 7:00 pm
Conway’s Story
This workshop focuses reflections through listening to the voice of a young man, Conway, who is affected by racism towards those of African descent. Discussion of the relationship of this experience to the experience of aboriginal Canadians turns this story to our story in Saskatoon and Western Canada.

Workshop 2:
May 9 9:00 am
A Lutheran Bishop’s Story
This workshop focuses reflections around the voice of a Lutheran bishop immersed in multicultural ministries in a multicultural urban and rural synod. He reflects on his status as a White male, enculturated in a context of social structures which privileged his race, and considers his role and power in the institutional Church where racism exists as a human and structural dynamic. Discussion of this bishop’s story will examine the parallels and contrasts to his experience in relation to aboriginal Canadians and the Church as a social structure.

Workshop 3:
May 9 1:00 pm
God’s Story
This workshop focuses our ears on the voice of those who are actively involved in creating an anti-racist/multicultural church which enacts the reconciling freedom of the Risen Christ. Discussion will engage with questions about the Canadian context and opportunities for the Church to stand as a voice for peace between races, particularly Canadian aboriginal peoples and active Christians.
